End of the race for a 52 -year -old American man who managed to escape justice for … 23 years.
Juan Carlos Muñoz, his real name, had been sought since January 11, 2002 for kidnapping and sexual crimes. After many years without finding it, the researchers deepened the investigations in early 2025.
Formally identified thanks to digital footprints
On Thursday, September 11, the police saw him get on a car and get away from the place they were seeing. This man underwent a road check after a crime in the road code. A control during which he gave another identity, authorities said in a statement.
Finally, his digital footprints spoke to him: it was Juan Carlos Muñoz. He was arrested immediately, underlined the authorities.
“After spending 23 years escaping from the arrests, we have stopped this deceptive and dangerous fugitive. This fugitive did everything to avoid being arrested, particularly taking another identity more than twenty years ago and living under this pseudonym for all this time,” said American Marshal Pete Elliott.
Juan Carlos Muñoz was taken to a prison of Lake County, before being taken to Ashtabula County, the two in Ohio, where the events were committed 23 years earlier. If the county had changed, this man had still remained in the same state.
