An individual “fundamentally dangerous”: the main suspect in the Maddie case was released from prison in Germany

The German prosecutor Christian Wolters, who could not avoid this release due to lack of sufficient evidence at this stage to obtain an accusation, was concerned about this release.

The main suspect in the disappearance of the British girl Madeleine McCann in 2007 in Portugal, Christian Brückner, left prison in Germany on Wednesday, September 17 after serving a rape sentence in another case, said an AFP journalist.

The German prosecutor Christian Wolters, who could not avoid this release due to lack of sufficient evidence at this stage to obtain an accusation, was concerned about BFMTV of this release. In a recent interview with AFP, he also mentioned an individual “fundamentally dangerous.”

“You are likely to commit other crimes”

During the exams carried out as part of his last judgment, the expert in a psychiatrist concluded “that he probably committed other crimes, including sexual crimes.” “This risk persists because the defendant did not benefit from any therapy during his detention,” said the German prosecutor.

The child had disappeared in 2007 in Portugal, in Praia de Luz. Two years before, in the same place, the defendant had made a rape for which he fulfilled his latest penalty. If during the investigations to find the trail of Maddie McCann, the elements that led him proved to be insufficient, the German prosecutor considers that “he has not found anything that can refute the strong suspicions” in Christian Brückner.

For his part, Christian Brückner firmly denies the facts. In addition, although he was accused of similar facts committed between 2000 and 2017 in Portugal, he was launched in October 2024 in these files.
