The State Council will rule on the freezing of the evacuations of the Palestinian citizens of the Gaza Strip. This suspension had been announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean -noël Barrot, on August 1. A decision that followed a controversy linked to antisemy comments attributed to a Gazauie student welcome in France.
Two requests requesting the suspension of this frost will be studied by the judge of summary procedures of the institution, on Thursday, September 25, BFMTV learned from the State Council.
In addition to this first request, the applicants want measures to “register and investigation of the evacuation requests requested under family reunification and the effectiveness of the right to family reunification.”
“Almost 200 interested people” by Frost
From freezing, the government has not expressed itself on the issue. However, a diplomatic source confirms, with BFMTV, that the frost is still in progress. “Evacuation operations will resume when all conditions allow it.” The Minister of Resignation had indicated that the acquisition will be markedly conditioned at the end of the judicial investigation.
Currently, “a little more than 600 people” of the Gaza Strip have been welcome in the French soil “since the beginning of the conflict in October 2023”, including “more than 300” by 2025 “as part of the output operations organized by the Ministry” Foreign Affairs “, continues the same diplomatic source.
These coordinated operations gather the return of the French nationals, the agents of the French Institute, the French government fellows, of which Nour Atallah was part, and the winners of the Pause program, and their tamkeers.
While internal investigation is completed, unlike judicial investigation, “interministerial procedures have been strengthened. Each ministry and services will strengthen security systems to examine applications,” said the same source.
An immediate recipient claimed
The unilateral decision of frost led, at the beginning of September, the network of the University of France to express itself publicly and claim, upstream of the beginning of the academic year, the “immediate recovery of the reception of Palestinian students” that are currently registered in French higher education establishments.
“Beyond the humanitarian emergency, France University remembers that the mission of the university is to offer all and all the means to emancipate for knowledge,” France University wrote, in a press release published after the General Assembly of the Network.
“In a rule of law, the action of the authorities, even in the sovereign field, cannot escape international conventions and the protection of human rights,” wrote the Nidal association, which is one of the applicants, in a press release.
“In the long tradition of French universities, we had ready to receive students who come from Gaza,” said Jean-François Hucot, vice president of the Network and President of Unalco with BFMTV.
“This is something that is on the Israeli side, even before August 1, it was extremely complicated for academics or Palestinian students to get out of Gaza,” he said.
At the level of the National Assembly or the Senate, the question had not been debated. “I have not seen anyone go to the niche, the silence of these questions is not new,” deplores a senator.
