The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday denied former President Donald Trump’s request to submit his tax returns to the House of Representatives.
In a statement, the court said the Republican’s request was denied.
On November 1, U.S. Supreme Court President John Roberts temporarily blocked the filing of tax returns before a House of Representatives committee.
At the time, Roberts said the case was on hold until the Supreme Court ruled.
The case dates back to 2019, when the Ways and Means Commission issued a subpoena seeking access to the former US president’s tax returns as part of its investigation into alleged Trump tax violations.
This request is based on a 1924 law that allows the chairs of certain congressional committees to request disclosure of taxpayers’ tax returns.
Since Gerald Ford (1974-1977), Donald Trump was the first US president not to release his annual tax returns.
