A man suspected of having pointed out a laser in Marine One, the helicopter of US President Donald Trump, when he left the White House on Saturday, September 20, was arrested and accused, according to the police complaint consulted on Tuesday by AFP.
Jacob Samuel Winkler, 33, was not far from the White House when an officer with a secret uniform, the police responsible for the protection of the president, saw him steal a red laser beam in the device in which he was the head of state.
“He put Marine one in danger”
The helicopter stole at low altitude at the time of the incident. According to the complaint, the fact of pointing a laser in his direction “raised a risk of temporary blindness and disorientation of the pilot.”
“This endangered in danger of aerial collision,” added the document that indicates that other helicopters flew inside the perimeter.
Pointing to a laser in a plane is a federal crime subject to a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
A few moments before the incident, Jacob Samuel Winkler directed his laser on the uniform officer of the Secret Service, “disorient it briefly,” according to the complaint, who specifies that the police had seen the man because he was “without a shirt, spoke alone and was noisy.”
The alleged author recognizes the facts but argues ignorance
After being handcuffed, the latter said on several occasions: “I should apologize to Donald Trump.” He admitted to having a laser in Marine and explaining that he didn’t know it was illegal.
“He said he was pointing to all kinds of things like Stop,” the road signals specify the complaint.
