A network of more than 300 servers and 100,000 SIM cards capable of paralyzing telecommunications in New York dismantled before the UN General Assembly, US authorities announced on Tuesday, September 23.
“In addition to making anonymous phone calls that contain threats, these devices can be used to carry out a complete series of telecommunications attacks,” said the American Secret Service, responsible for the protection of high US political figures, in a statement.
“This includes placing the place of mobile-telephonas mobile offices, the possibility of carrying out the service for service and the facilitation of anonymous and encrypted communications between potentially malicious actors and criminal organizations,” adds the text.
Seized electronic devices
President Donald Trump will speak on Tuesday at the United Nations headquarters on the occasion of the High Level Week of the UN General Assembly that brings together multiple countries.
The Secret Service has announced that the seized electronic devices were within a radius of fifty kilometers around the United Nations headquarters. The federal agency has shared images that show dozens of SIM cards, connected to electronic devices.
“Given the moment, the location and risk of a significant interruption of New York telecommunications that represented these devices, the agency quickly acted to dismantle this network,” said the statement.
If the examination of the devices and the investigation is still underway, “the first analyzes give the existence of communications between the state actors that represent a threat to the known states and people of the authorities.”
