The French president, Emmanuel Macron, said on Wednesday, October 1 that nothing could be “excluded” in terms of response if a Russian plane violates the airspace.
“According to the doctrine of strategic ambiguity, I can tell him that nothing is excluded,” he said in an interview with the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
On September 24, Emmanuel Macron said that NATO countries had to “mount a notch” in case of “new provocations”, after the previous ones in Poland, Romania and Estonia. But “we are not going to open fire,” he added, contradicting US president Donald Trump on this point.
