Nine months after the start of the war in Ukraine, rumors of the mothers of Russian soldiers grow. Several thousand of them have signed a petition calling for the withdrawal of troops from Vladimir Putin’s army, our colleagues at CNN have observed. The initiative, launched by a Russian feminized collective this Sunday, coincides with Mother’s Day, which is celebrated on November 27 in Russia.
Posted on the Change.org site, the petition had been signed nearly 4,000 times as of Sunday’s end.
“For nine months now, the so-called ‘Special Military Operation’ has been ongoing and is bringing destruction, pain, blood and tears,” read the text posted online.
“Live in peace”
“Everything that happens in Ukraine and Russia worries us. Regardless of our nationality, religion or social status, we mothers in Russia are united by one desire: to live in peace and harmony, raise our children in a peaceful environment and not be afraid for their future”, writes the feminist collective.
For several days now, in videos posted on social networks, mothers and wives of mobilized Russians have been asking their loved ones to fight in dignified conditions.
The Russian president met on Friday, for the first time since the start of the conflict, with mothers of Russian fighters. Either Vladimir Putin assured, under the gaze of the cameras, “sharing the pain” of these womenit turns out that the participants in the meeting were selected for their closeness to the Russian leader.
