Nine months after the start of the war in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin “does everything possible to stay in power,” says Zhanna Agalakova. Invited this Tuesday on BFMTV, this Russian journalist had left her country at the very beginning of the conflict and had resigned from her position as a journalist on Russian television. She now denounces the propaganda of the Russian media, in which she, however, participated for many years, between 1999 and 2022.
According to Zhanna Agalakova, Channel1 propagandists are not aimed at the West, but at the Russian people. And this propaganda illustrates, according to her, that Vladimir Putin is “afraid and threatened.”
With the propagandists, Vladimir Putin “puts into the Russians’ heads this idea that if Russia loses, everyone will have problems. Because the situation at the front is not favourable”, analyzes Zhanna Agalakova.
“Does everything” to stay in power
However, the current occupant of the Kremlin remains in a position of strength “and can remain in power,” the journalist continues. “He does everything for it.”
But his age of 70, the stagnation of troops in Ukraine and the subsequent erosion of his personal prestige whet the appetite around him. It is clear that certain figures in the regime are taking advantage of this to position themselves politically and pose as Putin’s natural successors.
The former correspondent for Channel 1 in Paris believes that the coming weeks and months of conflict will determine the continuation of the conflict, and therefore Putin’s position in Russia.
Zhanna Agalakova also points out that many Russians do not approve of their president, but do not have the means to protest against the Kremlin or to leave the country.
