“She saved my life.” Last July, a British woman gave birth 12 weeks ahead of schedule. A delay that saved his life, according to doctors, he says the independent.
Harriet was originally due to give birth in early October. But on July 1, the already mother of two called the emergency services after experiencing stomach pains.
Following his recommendation, she went to Broomfield Hospital, in north-east London, and about 20 minutes after being picked up, she gave birth to Maddison naturally.
The premature baby was then admitted to the neonatal ward for treatment and the parents returned home three days later, leaving Maddison in the hospital.
“It Could Have Been Too Late”
It was while going to visit her daughter on July 7th that Harriet decided to have her checked out by a doctor because she was experiencing severe stomach pains. The specialists then discovered that a cyst located in her right ovary, which had already been detected in the twentieth week of her pregnancy, had grown, burst, and was now cancerous.
A follow-up scan was originally scheduled for the 29th week of pregnancy, but Maddison arrived earlier. Doctors then informed Harriet that she “may have been too late” if she had given birth as originally scheduled.
As if the baby “knew it had to come sooner”
Since then, the mother of three has had her right ovary and fallopian tube removed and started chemotherapy.
“Six months have passed, but I’m fine and I have my little girl by my side,” he relativized the British newspaper, before adding: “If Nicholas and I had not been in the hospital to visit Maddison, I would not do it.” I think I would have resented being seen by a doctor.
She said she was “too busy worrying about her newborn baby” to worry about her own health. “It was like he knew he had to get there early to save my life.”
Maddison is in very good health and was able to return to the family home a few weeks after her birth. “She really saved my life, but she won’t hear that from me because she’s going to use it against me when she’s a teenager,” her mother joked.
