A Palestinian hospital announced Monday that Israeli forces killed a teenager during an army operation in the occupied West Bank this morning.
Khalil Suleiman Hospital in Jenin, in the northern West Bank, said 16-year-old Jana Zakaran was shot in the head.
Zakaran was on the roof of the house where she lived, as she was found dead after Israeli troops withdrew from Jenin, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA added.
The Israeli army said it was aware of the teen’s death, indicating that an investigation is ongoing.
Troops entered the city and arrested three Palestinians wanted on suspicion of attacks against Israelis. There were clashes and a heavy exchange of fire between soldiers and suspects, he said.
About 150 Palestinians have been killed in fighting between Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem this year, making 2021 the deadliest year since 2006.
Israel has carried out daily raids to detain suspects in the West Bank following Palestinian attacks on Israeli targets in the spring that killed 19 people.
The army says the raids are aimed at dismantling militant networks and preventing future attacks, but for the Palestinians these operations serve to consolidate Israel’s occupation, now in its 56th year.
At least 31 people have been killed in Arab attacks in Israel and the occupied West Bank this year, according to Israeli figures.
