US military aid to Kiev means confrontation with Russia, Kremlin says

The Kremlin believes the US law, which passed on Tuesday, providing an additional $800 million in military aid to Ukraine, constitutes a provocation against Russia. Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian presidency quoted by Reuters, qualified the document as a confrontation with Moscow.

“It is of an extremely confrontational nature with regard to our country,” a Kremlin spokesman said of the document on Wednesday.

The bill that mandates a new aid package from Washington to Kyiv should get the green light in Congress later this month and will then be sent to the White House for approval by US President Joe Biden.

According to the news agency, the Fiscal National Defense Authorization Act of 2023 allows additional spending for the Ukrainian Security Assistance Initiative. The document represents an increase of $500 million compared to what Biden requested at the beginning of the year.

This bill removes some restrictions on ammunition contracts to support Ukraine, Reuters said.

The Biden administration has already provided more than $19.7 billion in military aid to Ukraine, including weapons, ammunition and air defense equipment, Sky News reports.
