The international community, meeting this Tuesday in Paris, once again mobilized in favor of Ukraine, this time with the double objective of orchestrating immediate aid to the Ukrainian population, the daily target of Russian attacks, and preparing for reconstruction.
After the conferences in Lugano, Warsaw and Berlin in recent months, this meeting aims to neutralize the strategy implemented since October by Russia, which consists of attacking civilian infrastructure to make the Ukrainian population suffer and weaken resistance.
Energy, food, water, health, transportation
The conference takes place in the morning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Called “Solidarity of the Ukrainian People”, it takes place in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Schmyhal.
“We synchronized our positions before (…) the support conference in Paris,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Twitter on Sunday after an interview with Emmanuel Macron.
Conference speakers will focus on five key areas: energy, water, food, health and transportation, to enable Ukraine to keep critical infrastructure in working order.
Volodymyr Zelensky will intervene by videoconference
“The immediate objective, (…) is that the Ukrainian electricity grid does not collapse, that we do not have a ‘blackout’ of several weeks, that the water in the pipes does not freeze” because the latter would then be out of service “until the summer”, it was explained to the Élysée and the Quai d’Orsay.
The effort should focus on restoring the infrastructure after each Russian bombing so that the population can get through the winter and also keep morale high. Quantified announcements from the French president are expected.
In addition to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, will speak by videoconference. “Heads of state, heads of government, ministers” from 47 countries will be represented, the Elysee said.
A “true outpouring of generosity” from French companies
In France, solidarity companies have been operating since the beginning of the war. BFMTV was able to follow, for example, the NGO Doc4Ukraine. For almost a year, more than 70 French companies, but also hospitals or individuals, have regularly sent him donations to help Ukraine survive and rebuild. Caroline Didier, founder of the NGO, thus underlines a “true outpouring of generosity”.
Doc4Ukraine convoys only take 5 days to reach their destination. Since the beginning of the war, the NGO has sent 400 tons of donations.
