German police on Saturday neutralized a hostage taking at a shopping center in Dresden, in the east of the country, forcing the area to be evacuated, international agencies said.
According to the Associated Press, German police claimed to have ended a hostage-taking in the city of Dresden, the capital of Saxony, in the east of the country.
According to the security authorities cited by the Spanish agency Efe, the Altmarkt-Galerie shopping center in the city center is at stake.
The authorities had asked the population to avoid an area in the center of the city and to close the Christmas market (Striezelmarkt) during the neutralization operation.
On the social network Twitter, the police announced that two people were injured in the aftermath of the incident, and it is not clear what happened to the alleged perpetrator.
According to the AP, Radio Dresden had reported that an armed man tried to enter the building where the station is located, near the city’s train station.
The man will have fired several shots before leaving the scene, the broadcaster said, something that has not been confirmed by the authorities for the time being.
Dresden police have since confirmed that a 62-year-old woman has been found dead in another part of the city, with her 40-year-old son a suspect in the death.
Authorities have not confirmed whether there is a connection between the woman’s death and the hostage-taking at the mall.
