Famous Iranian actress and fervent activist for women’s rights, Taraneh Alidoosti was arrested on Saturday in Iran, according to the judicial authority and a media outlet. She has openly supported the ongoing protest movement in Iran for almost 4 months.
Taraneh Alidoosti was arrested on Saturday by Iranian authorities for “her recent actions, posting false information and content, and inciting chaos,” according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency.
The agency of the judicial authority Mizan Online evokes for its part “unfounded comments on recent events and the publication of provocative material that supports street riots.”
The 38-year-old actress unambiguously supports the Iranian protest movement against power. In early December, she denounced in particular the hanging of Mohsen Shekari. This protester was executed after being accused of “war against God”, in an Instagram post. Her account has since been deleted.
The star of an Oscar-winning film

The feature film, which deals with the subject of prostitution, won the Oscar for best foreign language film in 2017.
Most recently, she starred in Iranian director Saeed Roustayi’s “Leïla et ses frères,” selected in official competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
