Doctors Without Borders employee kidnapped in northern Mali

An employee of the non-governmental organization (NGO) Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has been kidnapped in Gao, a city in northern Mali, the French news agency, France-Presse (AFP) reported on Tuesday, citing police sources and locations. .

“On Monday, December 19, at around 2:00 a.m., an MSF worker was kidnapped by armed men in a district of Gao,” a Malian police source told AFP, adding that the kidnapped worker is African. , but without identifying their nationality.

The information was later confirmed by another police source and an official from the Gao municipality.

Witnesses to the kidnapping have already been heard by police and “everything possible is being done to find the aid worker,” the police source told AFP.

MSF management did not want to react to this information at this time.

Mali has been suffering since 2012 from a serious security crisis and violence, including several kidnappings, both foreigners and Malians, motivated by various reasons, from simple ransom demands to ideological reprisals, or simply for criminal reasons.
