The president of the United States, Joe Biden, expressed this Thursday his wish that the country overcome political polarization and begin 2023 with a new spirit marked by goodness.
Biden expressed these ideas during his Christmas speech, addressed to the American people, which took place in one of the rooms of the White House, decorated for the Christmas season.
“I sincerely hope this holiday season will serve to remove the poison that has infected our politics and pitted us against each other. I hope this holiday season will allow our nation to start anew,” he said.
In addition, the US head of state also highlighted his desire that Americans be able to see themselves and recognize themselves as human beings who must be treated with dignity and respect, instead of members of the “red team”, in reference to the color of the Republican Party, or members of the “blue team”, the color of the Democratic Party.
“This Christmas, let’s spread a little goodness around,” the president urged.
Biden, of the Democratic Party, was elected in the 2020 presidential elections with the promise of uniting the United States after four years of the government of Republican Donald Trump (2017-2021).
The tone of his Christmas message was framed in this narrative of reconciliation, developed by Biden during his electoral campaign.
This speech also comes after a year of midterm elections, in which the Democrats, with Biden in particular, managed to defend themselves against the ‘red wave’ expected by the Republicans, who guaranteed control of the House of Representatives, but failed to ‘ storm the Senate, which is still a Democrat.
