Harvey Weinstein found guilty of three sexual assaults in Los Angeles

Former American film producer Harvey Weinstein was found guilty on Monday of rape and two assaults, nearly half of the charges he had been charged by four women, at the end of his trial in Los Angeles.

After two weeks of deliberations, the jury found Weinstein guilty of all charges of the first of four accusers.

However, jurors found him not guilty of the charges of a second woman and did not reach a verdict on the charges of two others.

The 70-year-old Weinstein, who produced award-winning hits such as “Pulp Fiction” (1994) or “The Artist” (2011), had already been sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York in 2020 for similar actions.

During this retrial, four women who testified anonymously accused the former producer of forcing them to have sex in hotels in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles between 2004 and 2013. A fifth witness eventually refused to testify.

After a painful period of hearings, often interrupted by prosecutors, the prosecutor described Weinstein as an “omnipotent bogeyman” who dominates Hollywood — the films he produced have received more than 330 Oscar nominations and 81 statuettes — and prevents their victims from speaking out . for fear of repercussions on their careers.
