“Avatar: Way Through Water” tops US box office over Christmas weekend

The film ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ continues to lead the North American box office, according to provisional data released this Monday, despite the fact that the movie theaters are almost deserted, due to the storm ‘Elliot’ that affected the United States at the end of the week of Christmas.

The sequel to ‘Avatar’, by James Cameron, which was released in the middle of this month, collected 90 million dollars (about 85 million euros) at the box office between Friday and today, a holiday in the United States and Canada, in the Second exposure week.

Counting the box office income from the date of release, ‘Avatar: El camino del agua’ has already raised more than 881 million dollars (about 830 million euros), according to data from the Box Office Mojo website.

‘Avatar’, from 2009, reached the highest box office in film history, having raised almost 3,000 million dollars (about 2,830 million euros).

Like “Avatar”, so too “Avatar: Waterway”, in which James Cameron “transports audiences back to the magnificent world of Pandora in a spectacular and exciting action-packed adventure”, is in 3D (three dimensions).

The story of the new film takes place ten years after the events of the first and follows the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri and their children): “Their problems, the long distances they go to stay safe, the battles they fight to stay alive.” and the tragedies they endure”, reads the film’s presentation text.

“Avatar: The Water Way” features in the cast Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Rabisi and Kate Winslet.

In addition to directing the film, James Cameron is also responsible for the script, along with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and is one of the producers, along with Jon Landau.
