At least one person died and nine others were injured after a shooting in Mobile, in the state of Alabama (United States), on New Year’s Eve, the city’s police chief, Paul Prine, revealed this Sunday.
The police received an alert call, after which a device went to the place where it found a dead person, as well as several injured who were taken to nearby hospitals, according to the CNN television network.
The Local Police have not provided information so far on arrests or the reason for the shooting, which took place in one of the places in the city where there were concerts scheduled to celebrate the end of the year.
In New York, a man attacked police near Times Square with a knife, wounding three officers, who remain in hospital in stable condition.
The suspect, a 19-year-old male, approached a police officer and struck him in the head with the gun, then attacked the other two officers before one of the officers fired his service weapon, pinning him.
The Federal Police (FBI), the New York police and the Joint Task Force against Terrorism are investigating the incident, but have ruled out that there is “any ongoing threat”.
FBI Deputy Director Mike Driscoll said at a press conference that everything points to an isolated incident.
