American actress and activist Jane Fonda announced tonight that she has been diagnosed with cancer, but emphasizes that she is optimistic about her recovery.
“I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma,” a cancer of the lymphatic system, “and began chemotherapy treatments,” the 84-year-old actress, who won two Best Actress Oscars, wrote on Instagram.
“It’s a completely curable cancer, 80% of people survive. I feel very lucky,” she noted.
Fonda added that she was “lucky to have health insurance and access to the best doctors and treatments.”
“I am aware that I am privileged and that is sad,” she said, adding that “many” Americans “don’t have access” to “quality” health care.

Jane Fonda’s career began in the 1960s and she won two Oscars for Best Actress, in 1971 for the Alan J. Pakula film “Klute”, and in 1978 for Hal Ashby’s “The Return of the Heroes”. received five more nominations.
