Two buses collided in Senegal, killing at least 38 people and injuring 87, local firefighters said on Sunday.
The accident took place on the night of Saturday to Sunday, at 03:15 local time, or 02:15 French time, near the town of Kaffrine, some 250 km southeast of the capital Dakar, according to a press release from the National Fire Department.
The victims were transported to Kaffrine hospital, the bodies were removed from the buses and the road was reopened to traffic, according to firefighters. The governor and the prefect had come to the place.
Two fatal accidents already last week
However, it is the deadliest accident in Senegal in recent years.
Last week, at least 14 people were killed and 73 injured in a collision between two buses in Yamoussoukro, in the center of the country, and 18 people were killed in a collision between two vehicles in northern Nigeria.
