The Pope prays for the “Ukrainian and Russian mothers” who lost their children in the war

The Pope remembered this Sunday “the Ukrainian mothers and the Russian mothers” of the soldiers killed in Ukraine and asked for prayers for them, who “lost their children” and pay “the price of war”, at the end of the Angelus prayer in the Vatican.

Pope Francis recalled “the Ukrainian brothers and sisters” who “suffer so much” who spent “this Christmas at war, without light, without heat” and asked the thousands of faithful gathered in Saint Peter’s Square to listen to him and “not forget “.

“And today, seeing the Virgin carrying the child in the manger, taking care of her, I think of the mothers of the victims of the war, of the soldiers who died in this war in the Ukraine, of the Ukrainian mothers and of the Russian mothers.” emphasized.

The Pope wanted to pay tribute to these mothers for their suffering.

“They both lost their children, this is the price of war, let us pray for the mothers who lost their child soldiers, whether they are Ukrainian or Russian,” he added, and the words were greeted with applause by the faithful in St. Peter.

In his message for the World Day of Peace, celebrated on January 1, Francis, who on several occasions called for an end to the Russian invasion of that country, assured that the war in Ukraine is a defeat for humanity.

In his Christmas message, Francis called for “illuminating the minds of those who have the power to silence the guns” and “immediately stopping” the “senseless” war in Ukraine.
