Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has indicated that Portugal “is the first to make clear” this support for legitimacy, something that must now also happen, he appeals, “in the European Union and the CPLP, instantly or as close as possible.”
“I was in possession of the previous President and Portugal has always respected the democratic legitimacy of those who receive the vote of the Brazilian people. At this moment there is an inaugurated President and it is good that it is clear, from the beginning of the mandate, that this legitimacy cannot be questioned for events like these,” she asserts.
Asked, regarding the very recent trip to Brazil to attend the inauguration of Lula da Silva, whether he sees signs that this scenario could occur, Marcelo did not want to comment “because it would be weakening the fundamental message, at this moment it is strengthening and solidarity with the power that exists”.
