The governor of the Ukrainian region of Kherson, Yaroslav Yanushevich, denounced on Monday the Russian bombardments with incendiary ammunition after the end of the 36-hour truce announced by Moscow on the occasion of Orthodox Christmas.
Yanushevich said the attacks did not cause casualties, but recalled that the Geneva Convention prohibits the use of incendiary munitions against civilian targets.
Russian forces fired on other territories held by Ukrainian forces, including the city of Zaporizhia and several towns in the Dnipropetrovsk region. One person was killed in overnight attacks in Kharkov.
Meanwhile, in Kramatorsk and Kostiantinivka -in Donetsk- there were missile impacts that left one dead and eight injured, according to a presidential spokesman, Kirilo Timoshenko.
In addition, the Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister, Hanna Malear, acknowledged that the Ukrainian army is in a “difficult” situation due to the accumulation of Russian troops near Bakhmut, a key line for the defense of the cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. Maliar denounced the use of regular infantry and mercenaries from the Wagner paramilitary group.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that he is sending reinforcements to the Bakhmut region, and kyiv has assured that it has bombed 21 targets with its planes.
On the other hand, the pro-Russian authorities in Lugansk denounced on Sunday “the sabotage” of a gas pipeline that exploded and left more than 13,000 people without supply, in nine towns.
