A Bucharest court on Tuesday rejected the request for the release of British masculinist influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, arrested in late December in Romania for a case of pimping.
“They are still detained,” said a spokeswoman for the Prosecutor’s Office in charge of the fight against organized crime (DIICOT), Ramona Bolla.
The two former kickboxers, aged 36 and 34 respectively, had pleaded their case earlier in court, during a closed-door hearing that lasted several hours.
“Danger to public order given the seriousness of the crimes”
Arriving in a police van at dawn, they appeared handcuffed, all dressed in black. At the exit, his lawyer Eugen Vidineac wanted to be “confident” but at night, the court ruled “unfounded” the appeals filed.
Accused by the prosecution of “constitution of an organized criminal group, human trafficking and rape”, the Tate brothers had appealed their preventive detention, ordered on December 30 for a period of 30 days.
The judges had invoked a “risk of flight” and a “danger to public order in view of the seriousness of the crimes” charged.
Six potential victims have been identified at this stage. Deceived by the two men who feigned feelings for them, they were reportedly forced into prostitution and the production of pornographic films by violence, and some were kidnapped.
