Brazil. The Public Prosecution Service is asking for blockade of Jair Bolsonaro’s assets

The Prosecutor’s Office has asked Brazil’s Accounts Office to freeze the assets of former President Jair Bolsonaro after the attack on the three powers by his most radical supporters.

The Deputy Attorney General of the Public Prosecution Service for the Court of Auditors, Lucas Rocha, also asked for the sanction to be extended to Brasília’s suspended governor, Ibaneis Rocha, and his former secretary of security, Anderson Torres, a loyal ally and former Bolsonaro’s Minister of justice.

Lucas Rocha justified his demand “because of the accountability process and the vandalism that took place” in the Brazilian capital on January 8, “which caused numerous damages to the federal treasury”.

On Sunday, thousands of radical protesters invaded and caused serious damage to the seats of parliament, the presidency and the Supreme Court for four hours until they were dispersed by security forces.

About 1,500 people were detained between Sunday and Monday, although federal police reported today that they had released “chronically ill elderly people” and “adults responsible for minors”, without specifying the exact number.

In addition, the Supreme Court on Sunday removed Brasilia governor Ibaneis Rocha from office for 90 days for his alleged “failure” to neutralize the radical attacks that were causing chaos at the heart of Brazilian democracy.
