More than a hundred people demonstrated this late afternoon on Wednesday in Largo de Camões, in Lisbon, in support of Brazilian democracy and accountability for those involved in the attack on the three powers in Brasília last Sunday.
“In defense of democracy in Brazil and accountability to all criminals and terrorists – no amnesty”is the theme of the demonstration organized by Coletivo Andorinha – Frente Democrática Brasileira in Lisbon, one of the most representative Brazilian activist movements in Portugal.
Protesters chanted “no amnesty” and refused a pardon of justice to supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro who raided the headquarters of the Alvorada Palace, Congress and Federal Supreme Court, the headquarters of the three branches (executive, legislative and judiciary) and destroyed.
Samara Azevedo, representative of Coletivo Andorinha, called for more demonstrations: “Abroad, our voice is greatly amplified and succeeds in making the case reach Brazil,” he justified.
The initiative launched the Manifesto in Support of Brazilian Democracy.
At least 47 Portuguese organizations and more than 400 people had, by the time scheduled for the demonstration (6 p.m. in Lisbon), signed the document in support of the government of Lula da Silva, elected last October, calling for “accountability of all coup and terrorist criminals in Brazil”.
“It is well known that organized ‘bolsonarista’ groups had support and funding with the aim of staging a coup against the democratically elected government in Brazil, as well as profiting from the negligence of state agents and public security forces.”is stated in the manifesto, which was signed by organizations, political parties and activists in Portugal.
“Such crimes must be addressed politically and judicially! We strengthen our support for Brazilian democracy, for the democratically elected government and for the accountability of all criminal conspirators and terrorists”defends the text.
“We, organizations, collectives, institutions and citizens in Portugal stand with the Brazilian people in defense of democracy in Brazil and reject the criminal, anti-democratic and terrorist attacks on the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasília that took place last Sunday. , January 8, 2023″says the document.
Among the entities that signed this manifesto are the Bloco de Esquerda, the Ecologist Party Os Verdes, SOS Racismo, Solidariedade Imigrante – Association for the Defense of the Rights of Immigrants (SOLIM), the Association to Combat Precarious Precarious Inflexibles, the Association Renovating Mouraria or the Brazilian group will not shut up!.
