Four women and two children, one aged seven and one aged 12, were injured in a shooting at a funeral in London, British police said, calling for witnesses.
“The incident took place near a church where a funeral was taking place. Preliminary investigations suggest the shots were fired from a moving vehicle which then fled,” the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
“Any shooting is unacceptable, but multiple people, including two children, being injured in a Saturday afternoon shooting is shocking,” said Superintendent Ed Wells, quoted in the statement, calling for witnesses.
The four women injured in the incident near Euston tube station are aged 21, 41, 48 and 54. The 48-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries and police are still awaiting information about the youngest. The rest have no serious injuries.
As for the children, the seven-year-old is at risk of dying, while the 12-year-old has only suffered a wound on her leg and has already been discharged.
A witness told the MyLondon website that the shots occurred as people who had attended the joint funeral of mother and daughter watched the release of doves after mass.
The police are investigating the incident.
