One of the most wanted mafia bosses in Italy was arrested this Monday in Palermo. The information was confirmed by the Italian government and Deputy Prime Minister Mateo Salvini says that today is a “great day for Italy”.
Matteo Messina Denaro, better known as Diabolik, has been on the run since 1993. He is suspected of several murders and, according to a note from the Italian authorities, was detained in a private clinic in Palermo.
Considered the “godfather” of the mafia, he was on the list of the world’s most wanted criminals as the leader of the powerful criminal organization Cosa Nostra, specializing in drug trafficking, prostitution, extortion and money laundering.
The face of the mafia leader is almost unknown and is based on computer reconstructions.
Messina Denaro, now 60, known for his extreme villainy, boasted that he could “fill an entire cemetery” with his victims, including a teenager, the son of a repentant mobster, whom he had dissolved in acid.
