The foreign ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on Saturday asked the German government to send “immediately” Leopard tanks to Ukraine to help the Ukrainian army against the Russian invasion in the face of the Berlin apprehensions.
“We, the foreign ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, call on Germany to immediately send Leopard tanks to Ukraine,” Urmas Reinsalu, Edgars Rinkevics and Gabrielius Landsbergis wrote on their social media.
The decision, they argue, “is necessary to end Russian aggression, help Ukraine and quickly restore peace in Europe.”
The foreign affairs ministers describe Germany as “the main European power” and stress that, as such, “it has a special responsibility in this regard”.
After the meeting of the 40 allied countries of the Contact Group for Ukraine at the German military base in Ramstein, the German government has not yet released the supply of tanks to Ukraine.
The United States and Ukraine called for a further step toward installing the Leopard tanks claimed by the Ukrainians.
