The President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, announced on Monday the construction of a gas pipeline that will connect the country with Italy, with the aim of increasing exports of gas, hydrogen, ammonia and electricity.
“Today we signed the agreement of intent to start the study and, subsequently, the construction of a private gas pipeline, different from the one that currently exists,” said the President of Algeria, at a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni , in Algiers.
Tebboune added that the new structure will be used for gas, hydrogen, ammonia and electricity.
“It is an important project, which transforms Italy into an energy distributor for the whole of Europe”, he stressed.
Despite not giving more details, the Algerian president assured that this gas pipeline will begin to operate in the “short term.”
