Invited on BFMTV, live from Moscow, the vice-president of the Duma, the lower house of the Russian Parliament, stated Monday night that the Europeans, through their military support, were responsible for the duration of the war in Ukraine, which began on February 24 due to the Russian invasion.
“The fighting that is taking place proves that European solidarity leads to death. Thanks to your help, the war has been going on for a year now,” Piotr Tolstoy told our antenna.
In recent weeks, Western countries have intensified their military support. Poland warned on Monday that it was ready to give up tentative backing from Berlin to deliver German-made Leopard tanks to Ukraine, where Russian forces continue to claim small gains in the field.
In this context, the European Union announced that it was granting an additional 500 million euros for the supply of weapons to Kyiv and allocating 45 million euros for the training of Ukrainian soldiers on EU territory.
The loss of European sovereignty
According to the vice-president of the Duma, “no one wanted to destroy any city”, despite the immense damage observed in Ukrainian cities such as Mariupol or Bakhmout, which he considers “a failure of the Ukrainian army”.
In addition, Piotr Tolstoy assured that “it was not the Russians who started this war, it was the Ukrainians.” And, by helping Ukraine, the Europeans, under the influence of the United States according to him, are exposing themselves to a new “energy crisis for the coming winter.”
“You are losing your European sovereignty. The decisions are made in Washington,” he lamented.
