Two people were killed and a third seriously injured Monday at a youth center in Des Moines, in the central US state of Iowa, police said.
Following an emergency call, law enforcement officers who went to the “It Starts Right Here” center, a program to help young people with problems, discovered three people with gunshot wounds, two of them “very serious.”
“These two people, two students, died […]. The third person, who is an employee of the facility, is in serious condition,” Des Moines police spokesman Paul Parizek told reporters.
Police have not yet been able to pin down the exact age of the two victims. I don’t know if they are adults or […] minor adolescents,” said Paul Parizek.
Three possible suspects arrested
According to witness descriptions, police stopped a vehicle and detained “three possible suspects.”
The investigation continues, he said in a statement.
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds said she was “shocked and saddened” by the shooting.
These two deaths follow the death Saturday night of 11 people in California, fatally shot by an Asian septuagenarian during the Chinese New Year festivities.
