Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was involved in a car accident in kyiv after a car collided with the vehicle he was traveling in, but suffered “no serious injuries”, a Ukrainian presidency source said on Wednesday.
“The president was examined by a doctor, no serious injuries were found,” said Sergii Nykyforov, a spokesman for the Ukrainian head of state.
In a post published on the social network Facebook, Sergii Nykyforov explained that a car collided with the car in which he was following Volodymyr Zelensky and escort vehicles in kyiv.
“The doctors who accompanied the head of state helped the driver of the car and transferred him to an ambulance,” added the same source, who did not specify when the accident occurred.
According to the spokesman for the Ukrainian president, the authorities will investigate the causes of the accident.
Volodymyr Zelensky visited the city of Izium on Wednesday, which served as a base for Russian troops in Kharkiv, in the east, and which was recaptured by the Ukrainian counteroffensive in that region.
Several Ukrainian media outlets, including the Ukrinform agency, reported on the trip by the Ukrainian leader, who has rarely left kyiv since the Russian invasion began in late February.
During the visit to Izium, Zelensky participated in a ceremony where the Ukrainian flag was raised and greeted the soldiers who participated in the liberation operation.
In the Ukrainian counteroffensive, kyiv forces have already recaptured more than 300 locations in the country’s northeastern region, from which Russian forces have almost completely withdrawn.
