The World Health Organization (WHO) decided after a meeting of the Emergency Committee on International Health Regulations to maintain the maximum alert level for the covid-19 pandemic.
While acknowledging that the pandemic may be approaching a tipping point, the commission concluded that “there is no doubt” that the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus will remain a permanently established pathogen in humans and animals going forward and therefore, action on the long-term public health concerns are critical, the WHO announced in a statement released this Monday.
The Emergency Committee advised the DG that the #COVID-19 pandemic remains a public health emergency of international concern. @DrTedros accepted the advice of the committee.

“While the elimination of this virus from human and animal reservoirs is highly unlikely, mitigating its devastating impact on morbidity and mortality is achievable and should remain a priority,” the WHO stressed.
