Russia’s Foreign Minister Serguei Lavrov revealed on Tuesday that its North American counterpart, Antony Blinken, has sent a message calling on Moscow to withdraw troops stationed in Ukraine.
Blinken’s message was sent through Egypt’s head of diplomacy, Sameh Shukri, with whom Lavrov met in Moscow today.
Blinken met the Egyptian foreign minister on Monday during a trip to Cairo.
“I affirm (…) We have heard once again that Russia must end…, that Russia must leave…, and then everything can be fine again,” Lavrov said at a press conference after meeting with the minister of Egypt’s Foreign Affairs.
Lavrov stressed that “Russia is ready to listen to any serious proposal to solve the current situation in a broader context”.
Shukri recalled that Blinken visited Egypt on Monday, where he met with Egyptian President Abdelfatah al Sisi, after talking about “bilateral relations and also the crisis between Ukraine and Russia” and “in particular” about military aspects.
NATO has been engaged in a war against Russia for “a long time”, Lavrov says
“I have conveyed to my colleague Lavrov the views I have heard from American colleagues,” he said, referring to Egypt’s defense of a political and negotiated solution.as well as defending the end of armed confrontations.
“As the ‘West’ continues to send more powerful weapons to Ukraine, Russia is taking steps to thwart attempts to make Ukraine an even greater threat to our security,” Lavrov said.
The foreign minister reiterated that NATO has been involved in a war against Russia “for a long time”, criticizing the supply of war materials to Kiev’s armed forces.
For this reason, he concluded, the Russian Armed Forces and Russian military leaders are “taking all necessary measures so that the plans of the ‘West’ do not materialize”.
