NATO’s Secretary General is visiting the United States between Tuesday and Thursday to meet with the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Defense, and the war in Ukraine should be part of the discussion.
According to information from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Jens Stoltenberg will spend three days in the United States of America (USA), which is also part of the military alliance, to meet with Antony Blinken and Lloyd J. Austin III, as well as US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan. Contacts with members of Congress and other officials are also planned.
NATO has not revealed what will be discussed, but the war in Ukraine is likely to be the main topic. February 24 of this month marks one year since the invasion of the Russian Federation began and an intensification of the Russian offensive is expected in the coming weeks, so NATO member states’ support for Kiev remains the dominant topic.
At the end of January, the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, approved the deployment of 31 M1 Abrams main battle tanks to Ukraine.
The meeting with the US National Security Advisor may also indicate that the recent escalation of the situation with China is being addressed.
On January 28, a device resembling a weather balloon flew over various parts of the United States, especially military areas. The Pentagon believes it was an attempted espionage by Beijing, which denies the allegations.
The balloon was eventually destroyed by the US Air Force, and Beijing criticized what it considered an exaggeration regarding a balloon that, Chinese officials claim, existed for meteorological purposes and inadvertently entered US territory.
