An 82-year-old woman who was pronounced dead at a nursing home in New York, in the United States, was found breathing three hours later at the funeral home she was taken to, local authorities revealed.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the Water’s Edge Rehab and Nursing Center in Port Jefferson, Long Island, at 1:30 p.m. she was taken to the OB Davis Funeral Homes in Miller Place, and at 14 :09 was discovered breathing and taken to a hospital.
The apparently untimely death report came days after an Iowa nursing home was fined for a similar incident, in which a 66-year-old woman was pronounced dead Jan. 3 at the Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Care Center in Urbandale, where he received palliative care.
The woman was placed in a body bag and taken to Ankeny Funeral Home & Crematory, where workers discovered she was breathing, officials said.
The woman was returned to hospice, where she died on Jan. 5, according to a report released last week by the Iowa Department of Inspection and Appeals.
The New York case has been referred to the Attorney General for investigation, police said.
