The US federal authorities have arrested two people suspected of preparing an attack against the energy infrastructure of the city of Baltimore, in the state of Maryland, including the founder of a neo-Nazi terrorist group in Florida.
Brandon Russell, 27, and Sarah Beth Clendaniel, 34, were arrested last week on suspicion of planning an attack, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said.
“The defendants not only spoke, but acted to carry out their threats and further their extremist goals,” said FBI Baltimore, Maryland office special agent Thomas Sobocinksi.
Brandon Russell is one of the founders of a “neo-Nazi terrorist organization” known as the Atomwaffen Division, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).
In 2017, Russell was the subject of two counts of possession and storage of explosives at his home in Tampa, northeast Florida.
Last December, there were two shooting attacks on power grid substations in North Carolina, and in recent months there have been similar sabotages in Washington, Oregon and Nevada.
