FBI searches classified documents in former US vice president’s home

The FBI searched former Vice President Mike Pence’s Indiana home on Friday as part of an investigation into the unauthorized possession of classified documents by former White House tenants.

The FBI investigative agency had already taken possession of what Pence’s lawyer described to the US National Archives as a “small number of documents” that had been “inadvertently boxed and sent to the home of former President Donald Trump” at the end of former President Donald Trump’s term. Pence in Indiana”.

Today’s search was described as “peaceful and consensual” and it came after a lengthy negotiation between Pence’s legal team, which assisted in the operations, and the FBI.

The former vice president and potential 2024 presidential candidate was out of state visiting family in California following the birth of a grandchild.

The Justice Department is also investigating the discovery of classified documents at President Joe Biden’s Delaware home and former office in Washington, as well as at former President Donald Trump’s Florida estate.

Authorities are also trying to determine whether Trump, or anyone on his team, criminally obstructed the investigation by refusing to hand over the documents.

Pence’s case is very different from Trump’s, as the former vice president requested a review of the documents stored in his home as soon as other documents were discovered in his former office.

Pence claims he was unaware the documents were in his possession and always cooperated with the investigations.

“Let me be clear: these classified documents are not to be in my personal residence,” said Pence, who took full responsibility for “errors committed” in filing his papers.
