At least six dead and nearly 300 injured after new earthquakes

At least six people died in two earthquakes measuring 6.4 and 5.8 that struck Turkey’s Hatay province Monday night, officials said Tuesday. average locations.

The search for survivors of the two new earthquakes continues in Defne and Samadang, where the second earthquake had its epicenter three minutes after the first, measuring 5.8.

Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said 18 of the 294 injured are in critical condition.

The new aftershocks caused panic, with local authorities asking for tents to be sent urgently as the population did not return to their homes for fear of the buildings collapsing.

Samandag mayor Refik Eryilmaz told Turkish television NTV on Monday that several buildings had collapsed and it was not known if anyone was inside.

The strongest aftershocks from Monday’s earthquake were felt in Syria, Jordan, Cyprus, Israel and even Egypt.
