PCP considers Portugal’s “position of submission” serious in the face of “arms escalation”

The PCP this Thursday regarded the “position of submission” of the Portuguese government in the face of the “arms escalation” in Ukraine as “particularly serious” and defended that it was urgent that “the United States, NATO and the European Union urge and feed the war”.

In a communiqué entitled “For peace! End the escalation of confrontation and war!”, the PCP believes that the “The reality shows that presented as a war between Russia and Ukraine, this is in fact a war of the United States of America (US) and NATO with Russia, within the framework of the strategy of hegemonic domination of the North American imperialism.”.

According to the PCP, in this strategic framework “Ukraine and the power installed there are being used as an instrument of this dangerous warlike action, at the cost of the sacrifice of the Ukrainian people”.

“Imperialism is increasingly committed to creating serious hotbeds of tension and war for the purpose of justifying its policies of exploitation and oppression, which is evidenced by the increase in interference, aggression, the imposition of sanctions and blockades on countries that not submit to his dictates, including the escalation against Russia and the growing confrontation with China”blame the communists.

In this regard, the PCP states that “The position of the Portuguese Government of submission to and adherence to the escalation of arms and the aggravation of the conflict in Eastern Europe is particularly serious, contrary to the interests of the Portuguese people and the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, which seeks to towards the peaceful resolution of international conflicts”.

The party is considering “There is an urgent need for the US, NATO and the European Union (EU) to stop inciting and fueling the war in Ukraine and for negotiation channels to be opened with the other actors, namely the Russian Federation, with a view to reaching a peaceful resolution to the conflict”.

“The PCP rejects pressure and blackmail on countries that maintain their own stance on the conflict, do not align with the US, NATO and EU’s belligerent escalation, and warns that the effort to instrumentalize the United Nations (UN) is a the strategy’s function undermines its foundations and exploits its existence itself”defends the party.

Without naming a specific country, but at a time when China says it has a peace plan for Ukraine, the PCP said it “appreciates the calls, initiatives and proposals for mediation with a view to a speedy political resolution of the conflict”. .

At the same time, it also denounces “the maneuvers of imperialism which aim to hinder the necessary dialogue with a view to promoting peace, cooperation, security and disarmament”.

“In the current situation, in which the pursuit of peace is unequivocally reflected all over the world, the resistance and struggle of countries and peoples in defense of their sovereignty and rights, including the right to development, for the building of a new international order of peace and social progress”indicates the party.

The PCP emphasizes the urgent need to “put an end” to the war, which has “lasted nine years”, and warns that “the escalation of arms and the ensuing expansion and intensification” of the conflict “additionally and seriously entails consequences”. and dangers for the Ukrainian and Russian peoples, for the peoples of Europe and all over the world”.

It is becoming increasingly clear that it is the workers and peoples who pay the costs of incitement to war, of military frenzy, of the spiral of sanctions promoted by the US, NATO and the EU, visible in the rise in prices of goods first necessity, affect rights and living conditions, exacerbate poverty and inequality, worsen economic and social situation”refers.

for PCP, “It is becoming increasingly clear that those who profit from the war and want its continuation are the big armaments, energy, food, distribution or banking companies, amassing billions in profits.”

In this context, the party “expresses its solidarity with the victims of a war that has lasted nine years” and considers “the actions in favor of peace carried out in Portugal to be of great importance”.

“The PCP reiterates its firm commitment to the struggle for peace, for truth, against militarism, fascism and war, for a Portuguese foreign policy of national sovereignty, friendship, peace and cooperation with all the peoples of the world”concludes the statement.
