Two men were killed and three others injured in a second shooting this weekend after a funeral service in Minnesota’s Saint Paul state capital.
The city’s police said the five people were shot in a parking lot shortly after 5 p.m. (11 p.m. in Lisbon) on Saturday during an altercation following a funeral.
One man died at the scene and the second succumbed to his injuries in hospital, where he was transported in a private vehicle.
Of the three injured, a man was in critical condition Saturday night and two women had injuries that were classified as non-life threatening.
No arrests have been made so far and the names of the victims have yet to be released.
Saturday’s shooting came a day after three teens were shot and injured at a reception following the funeral of a Harding High School student who was fatally stabbed at the school two weeks earlier.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz wrote on the social network Twitter on Saturday night: “Gun violence in Saint Paul this weekend is unacceptable.”
Police indicated there was no evidence of a connection between the two weekend shootings in the city, but Mayor Melvin Carter said he was annoyed by the violence in St. Paul.
“We’re tired of holding this press conference. We’re tired of the words ‘angry’ and ‘absurd’ and ‘frustrating’ – and we’re tired of finding words to deal with violence,” Carter said at a press conference Saturday night.
“When we look at events like tonight it shakes our sense of security; it’s just devastating,” he added.
