Negotiations between Turkey, Sweden and Finland on the two countries’ accession to NATO will resume on March 9, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced Monday.
“The meeting will take place on March 9,” Cavusoglu told a news conference in Ankara.
In January, Turkey ended tripartite talks after the announcement of demonstrations in February against Ankara and against Islam in Stockholm.
The accession processes of the two Nordic countries to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization have their origin in the last Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24 of last year.
Turkey and Hungary are two of the 30 NATO countries that have not ratified the membership application of Finland and Sweden.
Among other measures, the Ankara government demands that both countries adopt a new attitude towards Kurdish refugees, especially members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, considered a “terrorist” organization by Turkey.
