The president of Brazil traveled to London this Sunday for the funeral of Isabel II and held a campaign rally for the presidential elections in October, at the embassy, and was criticized by fellow candidate Lula da Silva.

According to the Associated Press (AP) agency, Jair Bolsonaro addressed some 200 supporters at the Brazilian embassy in London and stressed that the polls that attribute the victory in the presidential elections on October 2 to former head of state Lula da Silva are wrong.

Bolsonaro is in London, on his first state visit to the United Kingdom, to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, a four-day trip that, according to AP, is seen by his followers as an opportunity to influence on some voters and contradict the image that the Brazilian leader is isolated in relation to other world leaders.

In his speech in the English capital, Bolsonaro guaranteed that he will win the elections: “There is no such thing as not winning in the first round,” said the Brazilian head of state, quoted by the Efe news agency.

Bolsonaro also questioned the reliability of the current electoral system in Brazil, despite the fact that there have been no complaints of fraud since it was introduced in 1996, and insisted on his ideological agenda, noting that the majority of Brazilians do not agree to discuss the the legalization of abortion, the decriminalization of drugs and the so-called “gender ideology”.

Lula da Silva, the former Brazilian president, who governed Brazil between 2003 and 2010, and who is ahead in the polls, considered it “commendable” that Bolsonaro attend the queen’s funeral, but condemned the use of the trip to “give speeches” and ” criticize the left.

“Wouldn’t it be better if the genocide visited the families of the people who died of covid?” today questioned the leader of the Workers’ Party (PT) during a campaign rally in Florianópolis, capital of the state of Santa Catarina.

After Isabel II’s funeral on Monday, Jair Bolsonaro is scheduled to travel to New York, in the United States of America, to address the United Nations General Assembly.

According to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bolsonaro’s speech in New York will probably have an electoral focus: “He is head of state and government, but he is also a candidate for re-election. This separation is necessary, but not always perfect,” he said. the President Ambassador of the UN in Brazil, Paulino Neto, quoted by AP.

Bolsonaro will also aim with this trip to show that he is not isolated or apart from other world leaders.

“What Bolsonaro wants is to show that he can ensure some stability and predictability in terms of values, and respond to criticism by saying that he is isolated in the world. And New York will give him a global stage,” he considered, quoted by AP. , the professor of foreign relations at the Getúlio Vargas Foundation in São Paulo, Oliver Stuenkel.
