Strong explosion recorded by residents of the Moscow region, says the Ukrainian press

Residents of Kolomna, a Russian city in the Moscow region, reported a loud explosion and smoke billowing from a bridge connecting Pisky station to Cherkizovo on Thursday, Ukrainian news agency Euromaidan Press reported.

One of the main Russian scientific and construction centers for military equipment, where the Iskander ballistic missile systems were developed, is located in Kolomna.

The reports were broadcast on the Baza channel of the Telegram social network, according to Euromaidan.

Earlier on the same channel, it was reported that one person was killed and five injured after an IL-76 aircraft exploded during tests.

The Kremlin today accused a group of suspected Ukrainian saboteurs of carrying out a “terrorist attack” in the Bryansk border region, while Kiev called the Russian accusations “deliberate provocations.”

According to Agence France Presse (AFP), the border regions have been hit by bombardments since February last year but it is not often that the Moscow authorities refer to actions by Ukrainian sabotage groups.

Russia’s security service (FSB) announced today that it has repelled “Ukrainian nationalists” who infiltrated Russia’s Bryansk region, on the border with Ukraine, killing two civilians.

An 11-year-old boy was injured, according to Russian authorities.

According to the Kremlin (presidency), Putin canceled a trip to the Caucasus, which he was supposed to make today, to monitor the evolution of the situation in the Bryansk region.

In the Kursk region, also bordering Ukraine, one person was killed in a Ukrainian shelling of the village of Tetkino, authorities said, though the information has not been independently confirmed.

The military offensive launched on February 24, 2022 by Russia in Ukraine has so far caused the flight of more than 14 million people -6.5 million internally displaced persons and more than 8.1 million to European countries-, according to the The latest data from the UN, which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since the Second World War (1939-1945).

Right now, at least 18 million Ukrainians are in need of humanitarian aid and 9.3 million are in need of food aid and shelter.

The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin as the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the international community at large, which has responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and imposing Russia from the political point of view and economic sanctions.

The UN presented 8,101 civilian deaths and 13,479 wounded as confirmed since the start of the war, emphasizing that these figures are far below the real ones.
