The Belgian federal government decided this Friday to ban the use of the application of the Chinese social network TikTok on the official devices of its employees for security reasons.
Similar measures have been taken in recent weeks by the European Union and the US and Canadian governments.
“The TikTok application is now banned at the federal level. It is a logical and necessary decision,” said one of the deputy prime ministers, ecologist Georges Gilkinet, announcing the decision taken today on the social network Twitter.
The application #TikTok sera désormais interdite au level fédéral.
A decision logic and necessity.
J’attendrai donc pour essayer d’y rivalizer avec la creativite sansborne de l’excellente @pdsutter.

The ban applies to ministers, their cabinets and the federal public service, the National Security Council decided in response to a report from the intelligence services, which pointed to the security risks of the platform.
The Chinese company ByteDance, owner of TikTok, has long guaranteed not to share user data with Chinese authorities.
