The unions have once again called a new day of demonstration for this Saturday. The sixth day of mobilization against the approval of the pension reform brought together 1.28 million protesters in the streets, according to government data, and 3.5 million according to CGT data.
After a strong mobilization last Tuesday against the pension reform, the unions sent a letter to Emmanuel Macron demanding a meeting. In the final stretch of the analysis of the bill in the Senate, the unions want to put pressure on Emmanuel Macron.
Philippe Martínez, from the CGT union federation, reiterated that “the ball is in the president’s court” and added that “we must continue with the mobilization and continue to express ourselves.”
“The ball is in the court of the President of the Republic. Things of this magnitude cannot happen in the country and that the person in charge of uniting all the French does not say anything, that he shut up and close himself in the Élysée, without taking into account the mobilizations and discontent. There are opinion studies and that is also important”, recalled the trade unionist.

The unions hope that Emmanuel Macron will receive them and in the letter they sent they are clear: “The silence of the Executive before the social mobilization against the pension reform reveals “a serious democratic problem”.
The unions, which have been lamenting the lack of closeness with the Eliseu for weeks, warn of the consequences that this withdrawal may have on the population.
Labor Minister Olivier Dussopt used the constitutional weapon of block voting in the Senate, which will decide the entire project in a single vote.
Emmanuel Macron cannot do without responding to the unions. The head of state sent a letter in which he stated that he did not “underestimate” the “discontent” and “anguish” of the French and reaffirmed that “a reform is necessary” and that the government is “listening” to the unions “to move forward for dialogue.”
