This is the third Oscar for Guillermo del Toro after, in 2018, he received the awards for Best Director and Best Picture, from the Hollywood Academy, for “The Shape of Water”.
“Pinocchio”, inspired by the classic by Carlo Collodi, was also distinguished at the Annie Awards for Animated Film, and at the BAFTAs, from the British Academy of Cinema, among more than 60 awards won, since its premiere in December of the year past. with the ‘seal’ of Netflix.
The Oscars celebrate their 95th edition tonight at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, in a ceremony in which “Ice Merchants”, by Portuguese director João Gonzalez, is also nominated for Best Animated Short Film.
“Ice Merchants” is the first Portuguese film nominated for an Oscar.
In this edition of the Oscars, “Everything at the same time everywhere”, an independent production by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, leads the race, with 11 nominations, bringing together those for Best Picture and Direction, as well as the representation categories.

The ceremony is hosted by host Jimmy Kimmel.
